ROSETTA JUNK
I am an Army Officer. Rosetta Stone is provided to us free of charge. It appears to be all the rage now, but I don't know why. Perhaps the craze is caused by the wild marketing campaign by the company. I tried it for a couple days, and found it to be very primitive and unhelpful. With all the photos, it might be good for children under the age of 10 or so. This program is for anti-intellectuals who don't really want to learn the language and grammar, but only want to speak like parrots. This program is not worth more than $50 for levels 1-5 combined.
In short, forget the hype. There are no shortcuts to real language learning. I'd stick with the old tried and true companies like Berlitz, Pimsleur, Living Language, and other companies.
