Francais - a language of the world

by Charles
(Grand Rapids, MI, USA)

French is still considered the language of diplomats, as well as being one of several official languages for both the United Nations and the European Union. Although many people are unaware (especially Americans), French is more widely spoken worldwide than Spanish. Despite its universal appeal, the language can still be very difficult to learn - especially once having reached advance topics, such as grammar.

The language itself I find very beautiful. It flows together, and as one professor once told me is sung... not spoken. Which, I find true, you sing this beautiful language nothing else.

People are often turned off to French say it is a language of snooty people who hate America, but in my experiences I have never found this to be true. True, America and French do have differences, but their histories have intertwined them together for far too long, and most people don't realize that.

My suggestions, is that you learn French. It is fun, useful, and exciting. It adds a whole new depth to one who learns it, all the while making yourself more cultured by taking on a second language.
