FSI - A Long-Lost Favorite

One of the classic language learning methods is the old FSI courses, the Foreign Service language courses produced by the US government. Some companies repackage these courses and sell them in different formats, but you can actually get them free because they are produced by government funds and are therefore public domain! The trouble is - finding them.

There have been a few websites that maintain these courses for free, but they have come and gone over the years. I have just recently come across two sites that have these courses, as well as others from the DLI (Defense Language Institute), The Peace Corps and others.

These courses are OLD, some of them go back to the 1960's! But they are VERY comprehensive and you just can't go wrong for the price. One of my favorite features of these courses are the drills. I find them really helpful for making you think and remember things on the fly. They usually have a ton of audio and they are available for a wide variety of languages - most of the commonly learned languages and a few very uncommon and rare ones.
