To learn Farsi is a unique and interesting challenge. This influential and (to Western ears) exotic language is a rich and rewarding experience for those intrepid language learners who have attempted it.
Farsi, also known as Persian, is spoken in Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan. It is also spoken by Persians in cities around the world. It is an Indo-European language and thus distantly related to European languages and even English. There are few similarities, however.
Farsi uses a form of the Arabic script and has a rich and highly regarded literature. Once used as a lingua franca ranging far beyond its native boundaries, Farsi is still an influential language, exporting much of its vocabulary to neighboring languages.
The real challenge in learning Farsi is finding materials to study with. Some of the biggest publishers of language products are coming on board with new products, owing perhaps to the growing influence of this exciting language.
