My Spanish Came in Handy

I took Spanish in high school, many years ago. I really enjoyed it. But because I didn't keep it up, I had forgotten quite a lot of the language over the years through non-use. But when I went on a European trip, my luggage got lost in Barcelona. I was so frantic. I didn't want to have to buy a whole new wardrobe! So I reached back into my mind to find a few words in Spanish I could communicate my problem to authorities at the airport. I came up with Dónde están las maletas, Dónde están las maletas. It's the only words I could recall, so I just kept repeating it over and over Where are our suitcases? Dónde están las maletas!?

We had to wait around for about an hour or more, but finally they found our luggage! It was some kind of mix-up on the planes, and it almost got sent to another country, but they stopped it in time. Now THAT made me happy that I took my high school Spanish!
